VEINS AND BLOOD CIRCULATION DISTURBANCES

Our circulatory system is comprised of two parts: arteries and veins. The arteries carry the blood from the heart to the various organs; the veins carry the blood from the various organs to the heart. The characteristics of these vessels are very different because veins do not have muscles along their internal wall; therefore, to bring blood back to the heart, they need a “push” that, especially in the lower limbs, is performed by muscular contractions that work as a sort of “pump.” When, for various reasons, this pump is not activated or when the valve system, another specific characteristic of the vein, can’t perform its task, the veins dilate and become inflamed, causing phlebitis that, when chronic, can be treated with thermal treatments.

THERMAL TREATMENTS

As concerns the vascular system, thermal treatments are recommended to treat the pathologies of the venous system, especially in the lower limbs. Bath therapy is especially recommended for phlebopathy or after surgery.

VENOUS PATHOLOGIES THAT CAN BE TREATED AT THE SPAS

The salt bromine iodine hyperthermal waters of Abano and Montegrotto have a strong anti-inflammatory effect. Therefore, considering that inflammation is one of the characteristics of phlebopathies (such as phlebitis, thrombophlebitis andvarices), thermal treatments are particularly suitable as thermal water improves the vascular pump function and, as a consequence, blood circulation..

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Thermal treatments are contra-indicated during the acute phase of phlebitis. It is safe to stay at Abano and Montegrotto spas because  each hotel is a true spa centre where there is a sanitary structure coordinated by a doctor who will make sure that there are no contra-indications for undergoing thermal treatments.
