Rural Culture Museum at Piove di Sacco. The municipality of Piove di Sacco, within its program of historical and cultural heritage promotion, has committed itself to the safeguard and maintenance of the ‘casoni’, rural houses today almost completely disappeared in the area of Piove di Sacco. At Corte, in Piove di Sacco, stand two well-preserved and recently refurbished ‘casoni’: the Casone Rosso (red casone) and the Casone di via Ramei (casone on Ramei road). The ‘Casone Rosso’ was built by Zecchin family in the early 20th century and people lived here until the end of 1970s, when the municipality decided to buy this typical building of the local rural society, and, later, in the 1980s, to restore it. The ‘casoni’ were built with natural materials, such as thatch, reeds, shrubs and clay. Their plan was rectangular or squared, with clay brick walls and a sloping four-pitch roof with a reeds covering. The rooms of the ‘Casone di via Ramei’ – the kitchen, the cattle shed, the workshop, the bedrooms and the loom works room – have been furnished with original tools and objects that well witness the local rural life and the economic organization of Padua rural areas.
