Applied and Decorative Arts Museum at Padua

The Applied and Decorative Arts Museum at Padua hosts more then two thousand objects of applied and decorative arts which are part of the collections of Padua Medieval and Modern Art Museum: glasses, carvings, ceramics, objects made of silver and ivory, jewels, textile products and pieces of furniture. A great amount of items, many of which on display for the first time, consists of handmade products used in Padua between the Middle Age and the second half of the 19th century. Several rooms have been recreated according to a chronological order to help visitors to understand the development of costume and art techniques savouring the spirit and life of past times. Furthermore, the exhibition of so many coeval items enables to easily guess the links among the different pieces artists and craftsmen created. The small collection of oriental objects, stored in the museum’s warehouse until recent times, represents a pleasant surprise. It is the result of the curiosity and passion of 19th-century travellers and collectors quite fond of Far East countries and their traditions. The Applied and Decorative Arts Museum hosts also a large collection of drawings and carvings dating from the 16th century to the present day.
