The province of Padua gives us wonderful examples of medieval fortified structures, which arose in strategically raised positions to defend the surrounding area.

Thus, a journey through the vast territory of Padua becomes an opportunity to discover the architecture of imposing castles, their constructive evolution and the different types of forts, starting with the mighty Castello di Monselice (Monselice Castle) to the defensive bulwark of San Martino; from the Castello del Catajo, a unique structure perched on the slopes of Monte Ceva, to the Castello Carrarese of Padua which has been saved from degradation by the Italian Fund for the Environment and the Municipality of Padua.

An ideal tour, starting from Padua, could follow the Euganean Riviera to Monselice to discover the perfectly preserved remains and meet, perhaps, some mysterious and mischievous ghost, or rediscover the legends associated with stories of princesses, soldiers and jesters.
