Museum of Cathedral at Cittadella

The Museum of Cathedral at Cittadella, founded in 1986 with the parish support, is the result of years of research and of the excellent work of valuable volunteers. Today it is considered as an example to follow. The museum represents an important cultural resource for the town: it houses the treasures of the church of Cittadella, memories of a distant past, and illustrates local history, both social and religious. Inside the cathedral there are altars enriched with remarkable altarpieces of historical and artistic relevance, a monumental vestry with a rich paintings collection, the Chapel of Our Lady Immaculate renowned for its frescoes, the Worship Chapel featuring a wonderful baroque altar, the Pio X hall and the hall dedicated to Monsignor Luigi Rossi, both with valuable artworks and religious furniture on display. The bell tower and the adjoining buildings host important findings relevant for the reconstruction of Cittadella’s religious history. The present neoclassical parish church, designed by architects Domenico Cerato and Ottavio Bertotti-Scamozzi, is adorned with beautiful paintings which belong to the 16th-, 17th- and 18th-century Venetian school – among them, some remarkable works by Jacopo da Bassano and Andrea Vicentino. The museum also hosts an important historical archive that, once digitally stored, will become a fundamental research tool.
